Australia Post helps improve children's access to literacy resources and creates opportunities for all children to develop their reading and writing skills.
Through a partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, Australia Post delivers around 100,000 books to children living remote Indigenous communities each year, and has released a teaching resource that brings the experiences and techniques of inspiring Indigenous authors into primary school classrooms.
Created to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day, the Indigenous Literacy Day Classroom Activity Guide has been developed for teachers of school students in years 1 - 6 and features Gregg Dreise and Sally Morgan, two renowned children’s authors.
The guide includes interactive activities that can be integrated into new and existing lesson plans, to help students build their knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ storytelling, culture and history.
