3. Long and short vowel game

[Image: a game to play with students to identify short and long syllable types. There is a picture of two dogs, a short dog called Jack (who represents a short vowel sound) and long sausage dog Jake (who represents a long vowel sound). Along the left-hand side of the slide are four short dog bones and four long dog bones, and each dog has a bowl with their name on it. As students identify whether there are short or long vowel sounds in words, an equivalent bone is given to either Jack or Jake. First word is ‘bat’, so Jack is given a bone. The next word is ‘bike, so Jake is given a bone. The final word is ‘phone’, so Jake is given another bone.]
